WVO for Xant owners

Post by Cpt_Spalding »

So, with the Bosch fuel pump we can pretty much use SVO in the tank (some of us will fit a fuel heater for added comfort).

What do we need to do to refine WVO so that we can use this as easily as we use SVO?

Most sites I have tried want to tell me how to make biodiesel which we don't really need. All we want IIRC is to filter the WVO, add something & give it a stir!

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Wvo can be use the same as svo in bosch pumped cars.

It will need filtering and dewatering.

More info on using wvo/svo can found here :

Because of the acids in WVO and it's water content, it is advisable to refine it into biodiesel.
It's a lot of hassle compared with just pouring SVO into the tank.

Some people have gotten away with just filtering (I've read of one guy who just runs it through a J-cloth folded up!) but I wouldn't want to risk it personally.

Personnally i can see the attraction but you need a good amount of space to do it in your back garden to get say a tanks worth out of it every week...

Converting it into bio and then maybe asking if some friends would like to try some ;) is a good way to get some cash out of it too but to be honest it would have to be filtered in stages, like a normal sock filter, then 20micron, 10micron, 5 micron and 1micron to go anywhere near one of my diesels as all the gunk in it cant be good for your engine :(
