Yes its the age old xantia blower motor not working syndrome thingy,

(i swear blind i need my own sub forum)

Well it refuses to come on, regardless of where the slidey thingy ma bob is. and guess whats also failed. yep that's right, the rear screen demister.

So working on that principle (and a little help from Xac) it needs one of them there by passes.

Now Ive used to search function, and read a load of technical stuff, and I'm still non the wiser. so how do i go about fitting one of these here thingy ma bob's to by pass it, any pictures would be most help full as I'm a noob and need to be cared for.

Anyway, I'm sure this car is a great car, if only things didn't stop working on it.

On a happy note though, I've stitched up my rear seats from that acid incident.

I finish at 12:30 and have to go to AH at some point to pick up 125,000 bbs for the weekend with M4Matty, then swap over the wheels on my Xantias.
If you meet us at AH (will phone them in a bit and find out when they're there) and follow us to Cassy, you can see the mod on her and copy it.
I'll bring my gas soldering iron and multi meter to check what voltage you're actually getting through the ignition switch incase it's totally fubar (as your rear heater switch has stopped working too).

Thank you Alan, that will be the one (thank you for not crucifying my blindness like some forums do).

Ive found out (last night), that if the car engine is running, and i wiggle the key in a certain way, the fan will power on very slowly, then blow a hurricane through the vents. so its not completely dead, just not getting a good connection to start with.

Ah,

I remember that thread.

By the way, 5 months later and I have not had a single re-occurance of the intermitant fan speed monkey business where the fan speed at random becomes uncontrollable until turning the ignition off and on, or the fan fails to work at all.

I'd definately recommend checking and fixing/cleaning the connectors on the blower motor itself as well as doing the relay mod - both are definite sources of trouble.

Regards,
Simon

My sons Xantia 2.0i has decided to show symptoms of a dry joint at the motor and he intends doing a re-solder job pre-Summer which out here is a major event with temps on the incar thermometer showing in the mid to late 40s regularly for weeks on end.

heater fan woes

Unread post by Redchocky »

Ok everyone a new variation on this theme.
Fan stopped working on my 2.1 VSX estate (97 R) so tried all the tests/fixes on these threads thinking i would fit the relay and hey presto.
But of course no, my fault is not in the ignition switch but a loss of voltage on the main feed from the battery. It only shows 11.49 volts on the meter and not enough oomph to even light a test light!
Any clues? Ideas? or should I just run a new lead from the front and be done with it?

Thanks

I'd be really interested in following this thread as I appear to have the same issue regarding my horns! From intial tests, there seems to be a high resistance in the +ve feed somewhere though it's yet to be comfirmed by someone more knowledgeable than I
