Xantia Diesel engine problem

Post by nigel2671 »

Can anybody help!! Xantia LX TD 96' engine problem. Driving home last night and noticed a lack of power when going uphill, then realised i could see slight smoke coming from the exhuast and then finally a wierd whining noise from the engine, which is getting louder. Sounds bloody expensive.. ..any ideas please?

thanks in advance. Nig

Check your engine induction pipes!!

It'd be too much of a coincidence the engine losing power and the noise
starting at the same time and it's entirely possible for the induction pipework
to pop apart at the point where it runs from the top of the engine down to
the front of the engine bay to the intercooler. The noise could be the sound
of the turbo spinning as it is after all still being driven by the exhaust output,
being more obvious as it now may be running normal atmospheric!!
The car will be TOTALLY gutless without firmly connected pipework...

unless of course you've jumped a tooth on the cambelt thus altering
the diesel/engine timing!!

Whereabouts in 'sunny south wales' are you - doesn't sound like
the same place I live in!!

I would agree. Check the output pipe connection on the turbo.
