Xantia 1.9TD Dash Warning Lights Problem

Post by soupy_sam »

My Battery and Stop Warning lights on the dash are intermitantly coming on and off maybe for 10 seconds 3 or 4 times at the start of a journey. What is the probable cause of this it seems to be in the wet that it happens.

I am towing a caravan using this car down to the South of France on Thursday so info before would be appreciated

Used to have this on my Astra.
Aux belt slipping on the alternator causing a drop in supply meaning you're running off your battery, hence the battery light coming on.
As your engine heats up and expands, the belt becomes tight so doesn't slip.
Check the condition of your aux belt and it's tension.

That's roughly what I was going to say. There is extra load on the alternator when you start because it's replacing the power used to start the car. I'd suggest a new belt for peace of mind.
