C5 Engine immobilizer fault

Post by odednovo »

I have a problem in my C5, sometimes, the engine fail to start, the starter motor operates normally but the engine refused to operate and there is ?engine immobilizer fault? message in the central screen.
After a few retries (I wait a few seconds between each retry) the engine start normally and I can drive the car without any problem.
Can sombody help me?

Is the car Petrol or Diesel, in the case of the latter- when was your fuel filter changed. I take it when you say the car drives normally, when started. That the message has disappeared.

Could be a faulty key,if you have a spare try using that & see if the fault persists.
Could also be the key reciever aerial around the ignition barrel playing up,they are not that expensive & are very easy to fit.

I had this problem last night and I had to re-initialise both my keys, but then the car would start with either.

It seems a big problem.
I took the car to Citroen garage. They checked the keys and the antenna and they claimed that the antenna receives the signal but from unknown reason the car does not start.
They suspected that it is the engine computer, they replaced it and the car started but after a few retries the problem rose again with the message: engine immobilizer fault.

they says that they needs more time to discover the reason for the problem, they didn't know how much time it will take.
Does anybody have an idea what to do?

the "engine computer" :?:

Thats about the most expensive part they could try first - and the least suspectible :^o

Why didnt they just try replace the antenna coil fitted around the ignition key. This is known to play up - and is MUCH cheaper ](*,)

I asked them this question.
They insists that the antenna is OK and it transfers the signal to the computer.
