110bhp Xantia HDi cutting out/loss of power & k symbol

Post by andmcit »

This is a problem troubling a good pal's car so this info may be a bit
second hand...

Nice car that runs very well apart from an annoying habit of cutting back
the power as though there's a fuel blockage/air leak. The engine coninues
to run but there's no point as the car wont accelerate/pull at all well.
A restart usually always creates a reset and the car runs happily once
more!! when it plays up the k symbol on the dash illuminates so the
ECU thinks there's a problem. I don't have a fault code reader though.

If the fuel pump/delivery is electrically controlled on a 'drive-by-wire'
system is there a known weakness/failre point that would fix this problem?

Ideas/suggestions?

It could be the lift pump in the tank, but that doesn't usually light the EML. Faults with the EGR solenoid are common, and give the sort of symptoms being experience. Might be worth just unplugging it to see what happens.

got the same problem on mine, checked the vacuum on the turbo waste gate ok i have swapped the 2 egr valves over this sorted the problem out for a bit now it looks like the other has gone engine management light back on loss of power ,so ordered a new one which is arriving monday £68 hole in the pocket for 1. going to put this in the egr for the turbo wastegate and take it from there.
cheers

I have been runiing my HDi Xantia for a year now with the EGR solenoid disconnected.... runs slightly sweeter at low revs, and doesn't coke up the inlet valves.

Passes MOT no sweat, so the conclusion is pretty obvious.
