Noise and poor gearchange

Hi All,
I have a problem with my 1999 Xantia MkII Turbo diesel Sx saloon.
I have just arrived back from a jaunt to france and appear to have suffered some form of problem. I have an idea what it may be but this is the problem :-

When I start the car it seems ok, when I drive away it seems ok but then... when I put my foot down and it gets between 2,200 and 3,000 revs there seems to be a noise similar to the exhaust blowing, AND when i go to change from 4th to 5th gear the gate is almost closed (as in, 2nd to third is about a 1" movement and 4th to 5th should be similar but goping against the spring) the movement from 4th to 5th is only about 1/4" (same too for reverse). The gate goes ok once i have stopped too on some occasions.
So..... I think it is the bottom engine mount gone and moving, causing the exhaust joint to open and blow and also causing the gear linkage to close therefore making the gate close.
Am I right????

Probably - cheap enough to find out! - put car on high and get down by the drivers door with the engine running and have a look at it. (You can see it clearly on a BX and ZX - don't know about a Xantia.

BX and ZX use the same bush which is obtainable for about £8 from GSF. I have fitted a BX one without removing the bracket (Remove yolk, saw through outer bush steel ring with hacksaw - remove old bush, fit new bushes and re-assemble) I deep froze the new bush to contract it a little to assist fitting. The bush the other end of the yolk will probably need doing as well.

The correct procedure is to remove the mounting plate with the bush. This means removing the RH drive shaft. This plate is available complete at a price.

I have changed my bottom engine bush (what a B*****d of a job too).
Sadly it hasnt made much diference.
The drivers side engine mount, how much movement should it have? It has been rubbing the rear bodywork (about 1/2 inch of movement).

Any Ideas Please???
