Hi all. I've got the chance to purchase an S reg Saxo 1.5 D and, as I have no knowledge of this model, would appreciate any input from members please. Mainly what to watch out for or hopefully even it's best points etc.
Any help as to whether or not to bother even buying this would be great and of course if anyone has one, their stories would be a help too.
Thanks everyone.

the 1.5D is working bit overtime dragging the Saxo.
Its therefore imperative that the coolant system is in mint condition, as this is the real headgasket killer.
Otherwise the diesel will be simpler to maintain than the petrol counterpart, as there are fewer parts involved keeping the engine up & running.
If you find the this Saxo slow, dont panic in thoughts about expensive repairs. You get an economic commuter on the expense of acceleration and topspeed. Those approx 40 horses will pull steady at moderate pace.

I had a Metro 1.5 D before turning french. Brilliant little engine, ran well and so economical. As Anders says keep an eye on the cooling system. The radiator in mine was past it's best so anything over 70 on the motorway would make the engine temperature slowly climb higher and higher.

As you can see from my signature, we have one which we've had from almost new. It's just used on local runs so its performance isn't often called upon. However, once your into 5th gear and the speed gets above 65, the engine begins to sound a bit frantic. I give the engine an oil and filter change every 5000 miles and renew the coolant every two years. Apart from a new set of tyres, in nearly ten years, that's all its ever had. Even the battery is original. Although it spends its life around town, it still achieves 44/45 mpg.
