TD Turbo

Post by jcdel »

Simple question this one(I hope). My turbo has blown big style-tons of smoke/revs and oil everywhere.Does the XUD engine usually survive.
Thanks again for replies past and present.

I think you'll find its a virtually unknown occurrence!

I suppose the risk is that some metal has got into the combustion chamber and done some damage.

In reality I'd have thought that the impeller was unlikely to have shattered - and even if it did - the intercooler would be an efficient filter.

Diesels are largely unaffected by combustion chamber crud - so its probably OK.

Its worth paying careful attention to the oil feed to the turbo - as something has made it fail.

The reliability makes the finding of a replacement easier and cheaper.

I have a spare Garrett from a TZD, just needs the actuator replacing due to the air pipe spigot being snapped off.

Yes they survive as long as the intercooler caught most of the oil and the bits that broke off.

Happend to me a while ago. I drained 2 litres of oil from the intercooler.
I checked that the cylinders were ok by releasing the glowplugs and hand cranking to make sure nothing was in the cylinders and i got all the oil out.

Good luck fixing it.
