ZX radio again.

Unread post by Jon »

I posted last week about the failure of the LCD and general illumination on my ZX factory fit rad/cass.
Problem solved, and full thanks to Andy of Installation Services, Ind Cit Specialists, of Hengoed, Shropshire (tel 01691 670003), who kindly gave me an identical, working set when I dropped in on Friday; and Graeme of Davidson Electronics http://www.davidsonelectronics.co.uk/cardecode.htm
who got me the code for the replacement set by way of the Blaupunkt serial number.
Good work fellas.
Also thanks to Alison for the offer of her set.

Jon,
Did you say yours was the four speaker auto-reverse set?
Our ZX Advantage has the more basic two speaker set and I find the quality very poor compared with the 3030 unit in my SX Xantia.
I wondered if upgrading to the better set from a crashed ZX Volcane (there's one in the breakers near me with the unit still fitted and undamaged) would bring the sound in our ZX up to my Xantia standard?

Yes, I've got the 4 speaker, auto reverse set with the bass/treble adjustment.(fitted to Zx Aura and Volcane as far as I can recall)
They are not a bad set, but suffer from problems with the cassette player chewing tapes. Either you're lucky with one or you're not. I was lucky with the one in my Volcane, perfect in every respect at 118k, but the one in my Aura is completely shagged(illumination, display and non working cassette, don't know why, I've known the car since it was new and my Dad only listened to radio 4)<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Should be a straight swop, if the loom has the wires for the rear speakers already included.

Jon - I really don't rate the factory fit stereos for the ZX - you can get an adaptor facia from your Citroen dealer for about a tenner which will allow you to fit any conventional stereo and still keep the pull down security flap. I fitted a budget 4 channel CD radio which cost me £99 from Halfords and have now got a brill sound system
