Rear seat catch broken?

Post by LeeDJC »

Another problem on my newly acquired estate - one of the rear seats is stuck. Looks like the catch mechanism is buggered.

The problem is, that the release button is stuck down, the small indicator button beside it is missing, and the seat won't release. As far as I can see, the only way to get to the internals of the mech is when the seat is down :(

I'm hoping that someone has come across this problem as well, and managed to fix it!

That'd be great thanks! It's the one on the drivers side.

had a look the only way you are going to be able to release it is through the top..... i did have this happen on a bx years years ago...of the top of my head that had one button in the middle and i was able to take the mechanism apart from the top and release it

sorry for the bad news

When you say through the top.....do you mean by removing/breaking the button etc and releasing it through there? I had a quick look again last night, and see that I can undo the catch bracket from in the boot, so I'll be able to move the seat forward. But I don't know if this'll help with regard to releasing the catch.

I haven't got a torx bit big enough to try at the moment. So will try and get hold of one and see if the improved access will help.

If the worst comes to the worst, at least I can get the seat out then, and maybe looking at replacing it.

yeah i reckon the button is probably a push fit so might lever out.....i imagine it has a rod connecting it to the catch mechanism that has become detached
