Hi
Just had to have my Xantia dragged onto the back of a recovery wagon.
The only problem was finding the towing eye to screw it in.
In the owners book it says its next to the bonnet hinge but I could not find mine any where.
Is it missing or am I looking in the wrong place
cheers

The one on my 2.1TD is in jack tray in the spare wheel under the boot.
Big brass thing.
The manual lies (must have been written by Haynes).

I am sure a recent article highlighted the dangers of using these screw in type towing eyes..
These towing eyes rely on the operator to make sure that the towing eye is screwed fully up to the shoulder and that the thread is not damaged. Also a 'straight pull' only should be exerted as when pulling it onto a breakdown wagon, NOT as when being towed behind another vehicle..
I believe that the major breakdown organisations will now refuse to use these type of towing eyes.

My xantia was recovered by the RAC a couple of months ago, (total loss of LHM but the suspension was still up) and the operator wanted the towing eye to tow the car with all wheels on the ground. I didn't have the towing eye with me, so the front of the car was driven ont his trailer gizmo and towed with the front wheels off the ground. If the suspension is down, they have to get a flatbed.f00lzz wrote: I believe that the major breakdown organisations will now refuse to use these type of towing eyes.

Basically these type of 'towing eyes' are 'potentially' unsafe to use.. any engineer will confirm the hazards of using a 'dynamo eyebolt' on anything but a straight lift even when fitted properly.. we are talking using untrained individuals to do the job of fitting these eyebolts and then using them appropriately.. and that's where the 'potential' for failure comes in.
