steering rack problem

Post by visagti »

I bought a new steering rack that was listed for a Visa Gti, when coming to fit it it had a square end that fits to the steering column and the one on the car had a spline end?

I checked another old one I had of another car from years ago and it was a spline end as well.

Dealer said it was correct one, also a couple of other parts suppliers say the square end fits the Gti and the spline is for petrol carb model ( I assume 1.4 ? ).

Has anyone changed this part before on any Visa? is this an error on the listing from Citroen

As far as I know square/splined goes with the year. I also think that it is the same rack on the C15 van and on the peugeot 205.

The year your car was registered is not necessaraly the year it was made, as I found to my cost when I tried to get a new radiator for my XM! The XM's have an 'RP' number on the front passenger door shut, I don't know if that's the the Visa's is, but that will confirm when it was made.
