It'll have multiplexing, airbags, ECU's , all sorts: It'll basically be a sillhouette pastiche car, like the new Beetle or MINI.........something for the urban metrosexual man or woman:Citroen-leave the past alone and do something bold in the future!!!

Regardless of the possible stupid technology,i think its a brave idea.

Always thought manufacturers could do somthing like this(make an old car on the outside with modern internals),the possibilities are endless.

2007 ford capri anyone

Designed by a bunch of students, eh. Don't they have any imagination? Didn't the same bunch of soap dodgers "redesign" the DS a couple of years ago? They must be working their way through the Citroen back catalogue.

They should stick to smoking bongs and drinking cheap beer at the student's union.

Or maybe that's the root of this problem...

It's not that brave an idea, it's been done already with the Beetle and the BMW Mini. Rover even resurrected the Allegro with the 200/25 model and the current London Taxi takes a lot of styling cues from the FX4.

It bears about as much resemblance to a 2CV as it does to a roast parsnip.

A typical Pizza Car like the so-called Beetle and Mini - same base, different toppings.

After the 10 year or whatever eat-by date, you'll have to throw it away. A real 2CV should last a bit longer, despite the last one rolling off the line at Mangualde in 1990.

Ford thought about bringing back the Capri and Cortina a number of years ago (back in the late 90s). Nothing ever came of it, which is good as I believe that old cars should stay in the past - dont get me wrong I really like old cars (own a few) as they have a character that cant be recreated in a modern motor (certain cars excluded - hyd cits for example) but these "crossover cars" are not for me.

If I were going to buy a Mini it would be the one with points and no airbag not that horrible BMW MINI

Thought for today - if Citroen want to bring a old car back into production what about the DS? :P

Ford carried the Cortina on for years; they just rebadged it as the Sierra..............

You can kinda see where they're coming from tho. Look at how sucsessful both the 'retro-modern' Beetle & Mini have become, if by reinventing the 2CV Citroen can do the same thing & tap into that customer base...
I think I saw Peugeot doing something similar with the 205??

Ah - but would anyone buy one for what it would cost to make - £300,000 or so? If they did make one, it would just be a C6 with a slightly different body, and all the disadvantages - depreciation, planned obsolescence, cannot repair.

It's a bit like these awful modern clocks - a subject I know something about.
I have just seen a "readers offer" cuckoo clock for £100. It bears no resemblance to a real one, and has a cheap quartz movement that will cost about 99p to make.
A real one in working order might set you back £50. So why buy this junk at all?

Somebody does; they buy so-called Minis and Beetles, even though real ones are available.
A triumph of marketing over common sense.

grrrh new beetles

took my little boy to see the latest herbie film and when herbie was racing NASCAR at the end (and winning of course) he sprang an oil leak..... :(

it was cured by taking parts from a modern beetle (that was friendly with herbie :P )

i felt like shouting at the screen .....you cant do that its a golf not a beetle! but i managed to restrain myself

yes yes i know i will try and get out more and not be so pedantic.....
