Xantia V6 timing belt special tools and belt question

Post by deian »

Hi, i'm wondering if anyone has any of the timing belt special tools? If so, where did you buy from Citroen, and were they expensive? If not did you get them from somewhere else? or did any of you make tools one yourself?

I'd be quite happy changing the belt myself but I will only start it if i know i can finish it. So if there are any special tools that are imperative for the job then i will have to get/make them myself. It doesn't look too bad though... the tensioner unit is £402 or something, i assume some of you may have missed this part out in the belt change? Or am i missing something here? The belt and water pump aren't too badly priced, lots of money yes, but not much worse than other car manufacturers.

Is it possible to source a belt from someone else maybe? The company that makes it is called Dayco, has anyone got any details on the make/model of the water pump? Maybe I can save something there too.

EDIT: How many teeth does it have? I've read 259 on the technical documents, but Eurocar parts sell a Contitech branded one with 146 teeth sold for £39.99. Contitech is a Continental company though, can anyone who knows let me know some stuff. Thanks so much.

Dayco belts are available elsewhere (GSF for instance) or other motor factors.

As far as tools, I'd take a look at Draper, Syles Pickavant and Laser for reasonable prices.

Parts used on my car were;
Water pump C1201F2 = £60.05
Timing belt C816H3 = £72.13
Bracket Plat (tensioner?) = £111.21
Roller C83058 = £55.29
Roller 2 x C83059 = £101.40

all plus VAT :cry:

Oh and anti freeze.

The parts list is from the previous owners bill, total cost = £892.51 :shock:

I paid £800 for the car 200 miles later :lol: although I'm starting to feel uncomfortable now :oops:

For belt specs etc have a look at the Quinton Hazell catalogues - they have things like teeth numbers etc - and being PDF's you can search them for other applications.
