Dispatch 1.9TD is it an XUD?

Post by Stewart(oily) »

Today I took delivery of my new (well to me at any rate) Citroen Dispatch van, the V5 stated the engine capacity as 1898ccs, it looks something like an XUD? but is it? I spied an hydraulic clutch (so no dreaded clutch clip) and a Lucas injector pump.

HDI diesels from PSA are badged as HDI. Engine type code DW.
XUD diesels are badged D or TD in any combination with trim level designators.
HDI's are 1.4, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2
XUD's are 1.8 (1.7), 1.9 and 2.1

- and then there are the smaller TUD variants.

Are you sure its not 1868cc which would be the DW8 engine ? what are the 1st 8 digits of the VIN this will confirm what engine type it has.

Yup 1868cc is what the V5 says, guess I will need to source a book of lies, does the DW8 engine have a good reputation like its siblings?

We have a DW8 in our Pug 306. It looks very much like a XUD and takes same oil filter and fuel filter but different air filter. What it doesn't have is the XUD's auto tensioner on the cambelt.

If its the 1868cc DW8 engine then its not a turbo diesel. fairly reliable engine but the EGR throttle butterflys can fail & cause lack of power & loads of black smoke. also the wiring is prone to breaking in the harness where it runs above the PAS pump & the cats (if it has one) also break up. timing belt due at 80,000 miles.
