Rare Citroen Van

Post by RustbucketP6 »

I work for Commercial Motor magazine - and came accross this unusual Citroen GS van photograph while searching through the archives.

I have to confess I didn't even know such a thing existed.
Does anyone know how many were built - or whether any still exist?

Like the BX van, the GS service van was very popular in Ireland but practically unheard of in the UK. They were very popular with vets and most would have had a fairly tough life. There are maybe three or four still knocking around in Ireland - the rust would have got most of them a long time ago

Here's a LHD one for sale - 4 grand:

That van is gorgeous :D Makes modern stuff look very plain.

Mind you, I've always had a liking for the GS...

These made it to a GSA era model mind - great load lugger!

IIRC, isn't it Chris Lightfoot of Citroen sphere changing/recharging fame at various
Citroen rallies etc that uses a very nice blue one?

I narrowly missed the opportunity to buy a left hooker dutch GSA that had been abandoned
and carted to a breaker by the council a few years back - it was a minter too...

The GS IS a fabulous car massively ignored and misunderstood. I'm fortunate to have
saved several when they were worth nothing a few years back - they're now worth almost
nothing so it's an improvement in relative terms!!

Nearest to a service van I've got are a GS 1220 estate and a GSA 1300 estate! :D

Lovely mota's!!

That car is the one I've seen before - it's a minter and probably worth the money as it's
almost certainly better than when it was new!! Wish I had £4k doing nothing else...
