Xantia V6 Fuel Leak

Unread post by f00lzz »

The wife came home last night and reported that the car was 'stinking of petrol today' and that she seemed to be using a lot of petrol (full tank in 2 days) for her 15 miles to work and back.
When I went out for a quick look I could still see the petrol trail down the road!!!
It would appear to be spraying from the fuel filter area, halfway down the car on drivers side.. does anyone have any 'history' of such filter failures???

Cheers
Ian

No experience of fuel leaks on a Xantia, but something to watch for is a fitting which has burst because of a downstream blockage (perhaps in the return line from the regulator to the tank). I have seen this on a Jag and a Merc.

Was that caused by corrosion or mechanical damage? Say, from a flying stone.

It is in a bit of a vulnerable spot...

In the picture shown, I have removed the clear plastic label, which though discoloured by fuel was completely intact so I can only assume that it wasn't 'external'. The hole was at the bottom of the filter so could have been 'settled moisture' causing the metal to corrode.... but :-k
