Xantia Estate TD Immobiliser Problem!!!!!

Post by 320i coupe »

Hi all,

Have a problem with my Xantia TD estate on an R plate.

Booked it into the garage today to have the pads changed, as one of the callipers has stuck and worn out one of the pads……

Left them with the code, and they have entered it in wrong, but then tried to start the car (wouldn’t start for obvious reason!!), , but this how now made the battery flat.

Went up there to the car this lunchtime, put a booster pack on the car, and when I enter the correct code, both the red & green lights stay lit, and the car turns over but doesn’t fire, as if the immobiliser hasn’t unlocked the fuel pump.

Does this mean I just need to let the car “time out” & re set itself, or could it be more serious i.e. ECU???

If it does need to be left for a period of time, how long should this be for???

Thanks again,

Steve

Mate at work had this the other day as a result of another muppet garage.

Checking the handbook says it will respond again with the correct code
after 30minutes switched off. Think it's 3 tries before lockup...

Usually it's quite easy to miss key the 4 number code - make certain it's
fully inputted before a retry - not sure if the "C" key acts as clear for this,
though I'm sure that you can simply switch the ignition off and retry fresh
again. It's sometimes easy to think you've pressed the correct number if
you haven't heard the beeps and ploughed on keying successive one's
that are then out of sync for the correct code.

The alarm wont sound if you leave the ignition switched on when the
battery is reconnected!!

I had this problem. Dead and nothing I did seemed to fix it. Then it came good, only to reoccur when I was at work. Eventualy I had the car towed to a dealer. They changed a relay somewhere and charged me $500. To be fair they spent a fair bit of time trying to diagnose the problem.

Drove it home and it failed again, the next morning.

Anyway after much fiddling and anguish I found that it must have been a bad connection somewhere in the connectors and loom under the fuses under the bonnet. ie just near the battery. Never found a diffinative problem, just after playing with this area it came good. Came back but after pulling all the connectors appart and cleaning, it has stayed good for about a year now.

It's unlikely but my XM showed the same fault when I went to buy it, it was the fuel cut off switch that needed resetting. Interestingly I've currently got the centre console stripped out of the XM and it starts fine without the keypad connected. Now that's security!
