Xantia Estate front discs

Post by GB »

What size/type of front discs should I get for my 1996 Xantia Estate SX 2.0 16V?

I bought a pair of 283mm-24mm Bendix discs the other day, but they do not fit!

I spoke to GSF and they say that there are a number of different brake systems available for my car and I, obviously, need to find out which brake system is used.

Any suggestions on how to identify the brake system manufacturer?

I was going to say 'its usually stamped on the master cylinder' but of course you dont have one! It may cast in on the calipers somewhere, or possibly on the ABS unit, otherwise I can only suggest measuring the discs.

In what way don't they fit?

They sound the correct fittment for your car but I thought they were 283 x 22m thick.

The 283mm discs fitted most models apart from TD auto, HDI 110 & later petrol turbos which all had 288mm dia ones.

There were two variants of the 283mm discs, thickness being the difference. The standard (which I think you need) is 22mm, and the other 26mm which fits the earlier petrol turbo and 2.1TD.

HTH

PS: In all cases I'm referring to the Estate car fittment.

Thanks Dave,

Now that I know the correct discs are 22mm, I have finally identified the problem: 26mm 283mm (2.0 16V Turbo) discs supplied in a 22mm 283mm (Estate) packaging. No wonder they don't fit.

Thanks for everyone's help - will source the correct discs tomorrow.

You should also find the type of system stamped on the brake caliper. My est TD had the Bendix system,as it was on the caliper. :)
