Does 53 Plate C5 110 HDI VTR 2.0 have DMF

Post by Citroen Virgin »

Being a total C5 novice (in fact, total car novice), I am reading some horror stories about slipping clutches and Fly Wheels exploding.

I have only just bought my C5 2.0 HDI VTR with 60k on the clock and the clutch bite is right at the top with very little play.
Still unsure whether it is actually slipping at all as still getting use to the car.
Could this be a sign of a wearing clutch and if so should I be covered under a Car Supermarket's 3 month standard warranty?

Clutch clip diagnosis

Post by paulbx »

I don't know if your model is DMF but a test for slipping / worn clutch is as follow.

Make sure nothing close parked in front of you

handbrake on FULL

Seatbelt on

Put car into 4th

Pull away as a if normally in 1st gear

IF car shudders quickly and violently to a stall ( head hitting windscreen) clutch is good

If it only dies after a bit of half hearted shake - clutch is worn

Thanks for that.

Do I leave the hand brake on the whole time............ Although that doesn't seem right.

Oh yes! The object of the test is to see if the clutch has enough grip to stall the engine.

I see.

That makes sense now.
Obviously i would expect it to stall horrenously if it is a good clutch.
