My 2000 Xantia has Trafficmaster installed but the licence expired long ago and I have no intention of renewing it. Usually it's just a matter of not pushing the button but it has a nasty habit of coming on at full volume if I switch the ignition off then switch it on again very quickly, e.g. if I realise I've forgotten to close a window.
Is there any way to kill Trafficmaster or, even better, remove every trace of it from the car? I can't pull the fuse because it is shared with other functions.
On a related stupid gimmick note, is there any way I can make the interior lights come straight on instead of gradually coming on?

Re: Trafficmaster
If it's any consolation my trafficmaster does the same...I'm prepared to put up with it because it may be required at some later date. With regard to the interior lights mine are fitted with LED's very bright and they come on straight away but extinguish gradually.. I think the 'control box' is located behind the glovebox (removal required) so presumeably you would be able to bypass it!

Bypassing the interior lamp control unit is not quite as simple as that as it has various other feeds than just from the interior light switch, the door switches and central locking being just two. It would be possible to do away with the 'fading' part of the circuit but a reasonable understanding of electronics would be required.

As f00lzz suggests the trafficmaster box is situated behind the glove compartment and from memory was not very difficult to reach - just unplugging the box removes the problem - plugging it back in will re activate it if its needed in future

If you just unplug it you will have no radio sound as the speaker wires come out of the radio & into the TM ecu then back out of it. you would need to re-join the speaker wires.RStacey wrote: just unplugging the box removes the problem - plugging it back in will re activate it if its needed in future

Luckily I do have a reasonable understanding of electronics, I work as a debug tech in an electronics factory.
I shall try and find the control box and see what's in there.
Adjusting the volume on the TM wouldn't help because it would still cut the radio volume and I'd still know it was in there.
Next project is to de-alarm the car but I suspect that will be slightly more complicated.

Hi redblack68
Into electronics, OK maybe your signature is a clue?. There are several inputs to a chip, the ones I have mentioned plus one from the ignition, you can probably work out all the permutations. The chip operates a relay with maybe a driver, I cant remember, but I think the timer circuit is seperate, so you should be able to mod it. I am basing this information on the control module in the XM, but as it does similar things I would assume that the circuit is similar. As you are still in electronics I expect you will be able to work it out. I retired from the TV trade 3 years ago and I am afraid the modern technology passes me by!

How would it cut in if your not renewing your subscribtion?
Mine cuts in occasionly when I turn the ignition off but then so does the radio switch off automatically anyway.
Sometimes mine tells me what motorway junction I'm near and I'm not subscribed either.
So as I say adjust the TM volume only

Sorry if I've given wrong information and I admit I dont know how its wired, but I made the suggestion based on the fact that I unplugged my trafficmaster 18 months ago to shut it up, and it had no effect on the radio or cd changer. I still have a silent trafficmaster and a fully functional radio/cd

I've done it. As some members predicted, the speakers didn't work when the unit was unplugged. There must be different variants.
I used the meter to find which pins give the unit its power and pushed them into the housing so they don't make contact.
Removing the glovebox was a minor pain, there are two screws hidden under the felt inside the glovebox. Not for the first time the BOL proved to be useless.
