A friend has a 1994 2.0 manual transmission XM that stalls at traffic lights. Local mechanic is asking for US$500 to replace the 'antistall control box' that he claims is under the dashboard.
Is there such a thing?
thanks.
XM idle control box?
Moderator: RichardW
New one to me...there's an idle control valve (fitted onto the throttle body) which is probably the first port of call. About £80 new in the UK (or it was on my ZX 1.8i - very similar engine).
On mine it's right on the top of the throttle body. They can sometimes be recovered by removing and cleaning out with carburettor cleaner; sometimes the whole throttle body needs cleaning out.
For $500, i'll come out there and do it myself!

There is a considerable amount of information for download on the Citroen y site - and the BX and Xantia info seems to be in English. You may be able to download a manual for it which may help.

Also some XM pages on the Citroen DIY site
http://www.tramontana.co.hu/citroen/
While you are there the technical guide referred to (again downloadable) is well worth reading on Citroens in general and deals with the various types of XM suspension etc.

Hi - try looking at this:
As Phil said it's the most likely culprit. When my Xm used to have a similar
problem, it used to run properly again when it got a good firm clout from a
screwdriver handle..
Eventually got fed up and changed it and never had the problem back!
Effectively it's like a Stromberg carb single needle "jet" that can stick preventing
the air into the inlet circuit. If it's present on the car in question it'll be
found near the battery box!
