Xantia Regulators, Lots of em!!!!

Post by slim123 »

OK, Heres the question that I have been trying to find the answer for, but I am not very good on the PR NET thingy.

On the Xantia there are 4 x different regulators fitted.

1x (A) Fitted to the early type using a flow valve and without the anti sink (same as BX / XM)

1 x (B) Fitted to the anti sink models up to approx 1998. The thread size in the input hole (6.35 pipe) is the standard M12 x 1.25.

1 x (C) Fitted to the later Xantia after about 1998. The thread in the input hole (6.35mm pipe) is a finer thread and does not use the standard rubber seal, the thread in this regulator is M12 X 1 (the same as the pipe fitting in the pump)

1 x (D) Fitted to only 1 x Xantia that I have ever seen! This was on my own car, a Xantia 1.8 petrol auto 1999 reg. This car had a flexible high pressure hose from the pump to the regulator with a banjo fitting at each end. A much better system but I have never seen it on any other Xantia!

Can anybody (Anders maybe!) see on PR NET any RP numbers that may help in identifying the regulators B and C as when I get a regulator for a Xantia I usually go and see the boys at Pleiades and if in doubt they give me both and I return the one that I dont use, I have tried asking at a few dealers but they simply dont have a clue.

I am not realy bothered about regulator D as I have only seen 1 of these, has anyone else come across this one ?

Any info would be a help.

Regards
Slim

PR.net is not all that helpful in this case, as there is only 1 picture, but...

Gosh -

Thanks RichardW, you saved me quite some copying, pasting & editing there
(I've done some minor editing to your posting, as you got tired removing extra blanks & lineshifts  )

Thanks for that, but this dont realy give any clue as to what car has the std M12X1.25 thread and what one uses the M12X1 thread.

I did find this list on PRNET but it does not state that all Xantia's up untill a certain RP no use 1 x regulator and all since use the later type. There must be a cut off point somewhere?

The clue I think is in the high pressure pipe pages, the early pipe uses the standard citroen 6.35 rubber seal set up in the regulator (used in all models since the DS) and the later one uses the M12 X 1 thread on the fitting with a small black plastic coated metal seal.

I will see if I can find a photo to post.

Any more ideas?

Here is a couple of piccys, just in case it makes it easier to understand.

Picture 1 is the standard Citroen 6.35 pipe end using the rubber seal and the M12 X 1.25 threaded fitting, the one that we all know and love.
Image

Picture 2 is the modern type of pipe end, this fitting is M12 X 1 the same as used in the pump end of the pipe, note that the rubber seal has been replaced with a metal seal, but there is a small "O" ring bonded to the end.

Pictures would have been clearer if I was better with a camera.

Never seen or heard of anything like that either. Are you sure that wasn't just a crafty repair done by someone ? (Eg a fully custom pipe) Or are you saying the actual fittings on the pump and regulator were different too ?

Nope!!

The car in question was a 1999 "T" plate Xantia 1.8 16 valve automatic. definatly not tampered with, as I bought the car new.

So looking through the list of numbers that Richard very kindly posted, what part No will fit the Xantia HDI? As this will give some kind of a clue, as the HDI uses the finer threaded (M12 X 1) regulator.

That would exclusively be Xantia series 2 ('98 on) models with a HDI engine.
That leaves part no 5274 19 as the only correct type as pr the list above:

*5274 19
CIRCUIT BREAKER
- INJECTION XU5JP
- INJECTION XU7JP
- INJECTION XU7JB
- INJECTION XU7JP4 AND BVM
- INJECTION XU10J2

- TURBO DIESEL XUD9TE
- TURBO INJECTION XU10J2TE
- DIESEL TURBO XUD9SD
- TURBO DIESEL XUD9TE AND BVM
- TURBO DIESEL XUD9TE AND AL4 (HP16) AND AIR CONDITIONNING
- TURBO DIESEL XUD11BTE
- TURBO DIESEL DW10TD
- DW10ATED TURBO DIESEL

DW10 designations are the HDI diesels, while XUD designations are the old style diesels.
