Xantia HDI cuts out when accelerating

Post by chrissib »

Xantia cuts out when accelerating. Engine dies with yellow engine shape warning light comes up on the dashboard. Car starts again but warning light stays on. Happened before and garage reset ECU, lasted for about 5 months, now happened again. Anyone know how to reset ECU? Or suggest anything else which may be the cause.
Thanks
Regards

Why not disconnect the battery for a short time (radio code time!!) this will re-set the ECU. I wonder if the fuel filter is due for replacement!

The low pressure pump gets lazy with age - there are a number of posts on this subject - and may be worth having a look. I suppose the throttle potentiometer (if it has one) could be worn and sparking which upsets the ECU?
