Hi, I just bought a 307 HDI (110bhp) in Nov 06 there seems to be a problem with the central locking as in weak signal with both my plip remotes, unless I'm right next to the car they won't work. This is gettin frustrating as I have to keep walking back to the car to lock as I was used of been able to lock/unlock my previous car (206 GTI) from the other end of the car park. I know its not right as the manual says it should work from 3 car lengths away & also my brother has a 2004 model & his works from an acceptable range. I brought my car back to the garage/supermarket I bought from & they tested my plip with infra red tester & said the tests results were acceptable. I went to Main Pug dealer & they told me they would first change battery & reprogramme. I changed the plip battery & reprogrammed
1. Switch off ignition
2. switch ignition on again
3. Immediately press the lock button
4. Switch of ignition & remove remote control key from the ignition lock.
& theres no change. Can anyone help as to what further test I can do?? Or point me in the right direct of what the problem might be?? My warranty period may well run out soon.

Love to know how it was tested with an infra red tester, the 307s remote fobs are RF for a start.
What year was you previous 206? I bet it was a pre october 2001 car.
The early ones had a very long remote range that was reduced when the 206 got multiplexed because it was a security risk ( people playing with the keyfob inside & not realising the car was responding to every button press up to 100 - 200 yards away )
The multiplexed 206s you have to be under 25 yards away for it to pick up the RF signal & respond to the remote fobs.
The 307 was launched with multiplexing, The early ones are CAN - BUS but the later ones are from 2004 ish CAN - CAN & the electonics are a lot better ( thanks to Bosch )
I think but dont quote me on this that the RF pick up aerial is part of the COM2000 unit, It might be best to let Peugeot plug it in & see if any faults are found, also get the latest BSI & ECU software downloads while you are at it.

COMM 2000 is part of the cars CAN - BUS multiplex system so a diagnostic test on the car will pull up any faults stored.
Software downloads for BSI & ECU normally cost one hours labour, you need to take ALL the keys & the blue plastic security code card as well if you take it in.
Your brothers 2004 car will most likely have the later revised CAN - CAN multiplexing system.

Does this mean that if I replace my COMM2000 part that I could use the newer CAN - CAN technology or would this mean that unfortunately the revised CAN - CAN multiplexing system is only available to the newer 307's as its a different multiplexing system.
Excuse me if I've got it wrong all I know is CAN stands for Controller Area Network & BUS = serial data bus with a transmission rate of up to 1,000,000 Bit/s, equivalent to approximately 30 A4 pages.
So if its the latter I will have to put up with the short range.
Also I didn't receive a blue plastic security code card when I purchased. How important is this??

You have to stick with CAN - BUS im afraid, cant be changed the later 307 CAN - CAN system is totally different.
The COM2000 unit only needs changing when its faulty ( give it time ) they have been modified but not in the way your hoping for with the remote locking.
Normally you start getting airbag warning light coming on, indicators not cancelling, trip computer having a sulk or the wipers & automatic lights ( if fitted ) doing there own thing.
Blue plastic security code card has the cars secret 4 digit immobiliser code on, without the code you cannot get in to the immobiliser system to code keys etc, If you take proof of id & ownership to any Peugeot dealer they can look the details up for you ( maybe a small charge )
But you only need the blue security code card when coding immobiliser keys or sometimes updating the BSI software ( sometimes the keys get erased in the update ) so let Peugeot look it up for you if needed & you have the BSI & ECU software updates
Also the 307 being multiplexed dont need a radio code as the radio is locked to the cars BSI unit.
Try & speak to another early 307 owner & see if there remote fob range is around the same as yours.

I will speak to the Garage I bought the Car from & see why they havn't give blue security code card to me. If not I will speak nicely to my not so friendly local Pug dealer. Bring on star ratings for Main dealers!!

Its nice to have the blue code card but not essential until immobiliser key coding time or a BSI software update wipes the keys from the memory, if that happens a Peugeot dealer can get the code quickly enough.
Should be a blue plastic card with Peugeot lion symbol on & CODE with a key symbol & a silver scratch panel on ( code is under that ) if its been scratched off so the code is visable you ask questions why?
Code will be a mixture of 4 different letters & numbers, I know mine has a number, letter, number, number code ( I had a 3rd key coded for keeping in wallet )
Good thing about multiplexed PSA stuff, no radio code to worry about.
