Xantia Headlight Failure

Post by josamolly »

Fotunately this is on my M reg and not my 'new' P reg.

My headlights have packed up basically. I can flash people, with my headlights that is!, but nothing else. The fuses look ok...

Thanks again guys

I've had headlamp switches do this to me before, you could try buying some switchlube to spray into it

Hope you nail this problem with a different stalk, I've got two Xantiae that
have EXACTLY the same problem that seem to have failed in the recent
bad weather, and am about to try a different stalk on one but haven't
found the time!! The switch has two screws which only undo outwards
towards the steering wheel, so you'll nede to remove the airbag and wheel
to remove the top half cowling - actually it may be easier first to just offer
the alternate switch up to the loom [the wiring on mine appears to have
enough slack once the multiplugs are undone to allow this].

If you study the wiring circuit in the Haynes for the lights you can actually
see how there is power on a main feed for 3 connections onto th switch
where one will go direct to the flsher whilst the other two feed a different
part of it. The earthing will be OK too as this is common shared by all the
lighting on the switch!

Be interesting to see how you fare - I may get around to trying the switch
this evening!

andmcit...

remember what Jeremy said recently about the conduit containing the loom across the front of the car- and water getting in through the split.

Why not do the mod to the headlights described under headlamp upgrade thread. This may eliminate the wiring at the front of the car and I can certainly vouch for the improvement having done it yesterday and then driving home from work in London tonight to the south coast in the rain and the dark :D
