Timing a Lucas (Rotodiesel) pump

Unread post by CitroJim »

I want to check the Lucas injection pump on Junior is correctly timed.

To do this you need a Dial Test Indicator (DTI) and a special timing pin that slips into the pump and must rise a given distance on No.4 TDC. The actual distance can be found on a label on the pump.

I turned up the special pin to the dimensions shown in the BoL and then set about devising how to mount the DTI.

This is how it ended up. There was a handy hole in the slam panel to bolt the bar to 8)

The timing pin is shown laying across the pump.

I have had the DTI for well over 20 years. I bought it originally for doing the ignition timing on my Suzuki GT550 Triple back in my biker days :P
