To do this you need a Dial Test Indicator (DTI) and a special timing pin that slips into the pump and must rise a given distance on No.4 TDC. The actual distance can be found on a label on the pump.
I turned up the special pin to the dimensions shown in the BoL and then set about devising how to mount the DTI.
This is how it ended up. There was a handy hole in the slam panel to bolt the bar to 8)
