Hi there.. you sound as though you can use a set of tools, so although there are a few things that could need looking at, they should be diy. I have had a 93tdsx for two years now, and so far have done the HG (I still have the scars to prove it) ;Rear arm bearings( Easier than you might imagine) Lower front strut balljoints; left and right steering balljoints; My n/s strut top( took 30 mins or so but cost over £100.00); Did the ignition switch mod for rear screen heater and blower.
Thats all I can remember for now, -it sounds a lot, and would normally make a car of this age BER, but I now have a xantia that runs really well and reliably ( Hope I don't regret saying that! ).
In closing, the work I have done to this car would seem to be typical to most cars of this age owned by members of this forum, so hopefully you somewhere to start looking. Best wishes, Martin

I won't do that again

well before i had it, it had new struts on the front, new spheres, reconed spheres on the back and i've just replaced the rear height corrector unit
to be fair, the only thing i can complain about it is, its rough starting from cold for the first 20 seconds, after that its perfect

Whats the general consensus on how long the rear arm bearings last on a Xantia ? (hatchback)

Was wondering that myself. On the BX I had to do the rear arms at 100 and 200k. The 95 1.9TD was up to 140k before we scrapped it last month and the 98 2.1TD is at 195k miles still on the original rear arm bearings with no sign of the dreaded wheel lean or other indicators.
As to what else goes, I've had to change the radiators at around 100k miles on 3 out of the 4 Cits we've had. Not done it yet on the new to us Xsara but then its a little way off 100k at the moment.

I've had a '93 SXTD for a year. Ive been doing a 160 a day round trip to work all year in her and she's perfect, and only uses 13 quid a day diesel for that.
In fact my dad did the similar trip to me recently in his new v***o and got similar mpg!
My Xantia also sounds rough when you start it at 5.45 in the morning (the neighbours love me) it's to do with a little air getting into the fuel lines over night according to the guys on the forum

160 miles on £13 Diesel - thats bloody good mileage!
Over 50 mpg. I wish I could could get near that - only get 40 - 43 mpg. 43 with combined moterway / a roads / city in my zx td.
Used to get approx 46 - 48 mpg before.
