Xantia V6 starter removal

Does the V6 starter come out without a fight?

Any tricks needed?

Yes, it's not too bad of a job, had mine out when it started to just click rather than start the engine, gave it a good clean up and a bit of lube, been fine ever since. I don't recall having to remove any other bits other than the heat shield.

The starter has been intermittently not working on the first turn of the key. It has been doing ot on and off for a few months, but this week it filed completely until hit with a hammer.

So I removed it today, and it is in pretty good condition, except the solenoid terminal where the main feed is attached has been overheating (presumbly not tightened enough at the factory). It is not helped by having a steel nut on a copper stud with no spring washer.

It has got hot enough that it has slightly deformed the plastic that it is mounted in, which means that the contact inside the solenoid has moved, and does not reliably close.

So I ordered a new solenoid from Wood Auto, £30 delivered. I hope it fits.
