406 2.1td New radiator

Post by GSB »

I have just replaced my rad. I hope I have got all the air out of the system. (I must be stupid I could not see/find one of the bleed screws as per Haynes, but bled the top one by the heater matrix.) If not what symptoms would I get. Thanks

It may overheat and probably the heater wouldn't work.

If you take off the expansion tank cap with the engine running and keep topping the expansion tank to the brim til the thermostat opens (water will pour out of expansion tank) then turn off angine and top up if needed, that should do it

there is a bleed screw on a xantia 2.1td it's right at the back on the bulkhead near the heater matrix pipes, i wouldn't worry about it tho i've never undone it and i don't think that the 2.1td's suffer from airlock problems. :)

Does the 2.1 need a header tank to fill like the 1.9 XUD's?

I found that a 1L antifreeze bottle with the @rse cut off and self-almalgamating tape wound round the threads worked well. You can really wedge it into the radiator opening to seal it.

G'luck.

Yes it does, I used an old 5 litre (not full up) antifreeze bottle cut up.
