Xantia heater

Post by xf8u »

The heater on my 1995 Xantia 1.9td with aricon does not work on any speed.
Someone told me it could be the diode pack. Is is easy to access and replace.

Try pushing the wiring attached to the motor connection under the passenger glovebox. Mine used to work intermittently and I asked a mechanic mate and he went straight to it. Apparently the contcats corrode but "hitting trhe lump" under the glovebox does the trick!

blower motor has a faulty connection probobly

Take it out, watch the red thick wire connection for burn marks.
if it has such marks, open the motor, the board with the connection (don't know it's name) needs replacing.

My heater fan was doing same thing so changed it for a salvage 1 and this works intermitent ive read some threads on here and heated rear window still works, stripped steering colum down and had ignition barrel out cant see any signs of over heating on the wires, mine is a mk2 xantia td estate with air con but the blower ive put in is from a pug 406 which i got told had air con there is the red conector plug and a fine pink wire with a black plug but no conector for the pink wire on the pug 406 blower could the pink wire not being conected be the problem it worked normal on all speeds when first fitted and now decides to work when it wants to :D paul

If it worked normally after replacement, it can’t be a question of wrong or missing wires.
Most likely that the salvaged one is on the way out.
It may have worn brushes.
Give it a few wallops, because that may ‘reseat’ the brushes.

Have just tried that clogzz still the same, put a volt meter on the red and black wires with engine running and it shows 14 volts and the blower is running at a slow speed no matter what speed i put the switch to on the dash.paul.

Does it stop spinning when you set the speed controller to ‘off’ ?
If yes, the speed control works normally.
If it keeps spinning in the ‘off’ position, there’s low voltage to the transistorised motor drive.
Also low voltage to the motor drive if on the low speed settings it spins faster than those setting.
Apart from the grimy look, does it look like this ?

Yes clogzz it looks like the 1 in photo but spins even in the off mode but have now accquired a xantia blower from another salvage yard and works perfect but for how long is the $64,000 question, looks like the pug 406 1 i got was a duff 1 which i bought as seen and cant get my money back so i will strip it down and if the brushes are ok they can be saved thanks clogzz.
