1997 Pug 406. Will not start. No apparent reason why.

Taken in part exchange. Drove in. Ex owner reckons he has never used the keypad in starting it. It winds over quite OK but a bit on the slow side. I have checked the rubber ball to ensure there is fuel getting to the filter.
I appreciate there could be a million reasons but any advice will be appreciated. Belts are OK. Compressions appears to be OK. 112k.

It is a TD.

has it a key pad or transponder? does the engine warning light come on with ignition (K)?

It winds over good.
The ball gets stiff on pumping.

Thats 2 out of at least 3 basic tests.

The 3.rd test : check there is a voltage feed to the glowplugs.
112K is about overdue for new glowplugs - any history on them ?

Thanks Anders will check. In reply to Pugexpert........yes it does have a keypad but the previous owner did not use it....seems odd does'nt it? I will check the dash for lights and come back to you. Thanks.

does the key pad light up? if so which lights are on green or red or red and green together? some of these cars were set up to unlock keypad on plip try locking and unlocking car then ignition on and look at state of keypad
