2.1TD engines

Post by h2ocooler »

Hi all
Does anyone know if all the 2.1TD citroen engines have the EPIC injector pump with the drive by wire on them or are there some out there with the good old fashioned 1 wire to the shut off valve and a proper throttle cable to the pump?
Did the peugeot 2.1TD have the epic as well?
Thanks
Rob

That sounds right to me, the Peugeot 605 2.1TD does not have the EPIC, it is a normal good old mechanical pump.

Why not try retrofitting a different pump, say a bosch 1.9td pump? they are meant to be the hardiest pumps in regard to the viscosity they will take fromthe incoming fuel which could get quite cool on a marine application and give you much better scope for replacement and finding spares in the future?

Hi H2O cooler!

I converted a Peugeot 505 diesel to marine and ran it in a half-planing 25-foot Norwegien boat (a Sandefjord Bever 740). Worked great and gave about 60hp. BTW, its the same block that the Volvo Penta MD21 was based on. Do you intend to use a turbo? (watercooler?)

Yep, you'll have to start looking for a pre mid '95 XM TD12 if you want a 2.1 litre with mechanical injection (or a similarly aged Pug 605 diesel).

Hi NiSK
Yes looking at a Turbo Diesel for the power, been looking on a marine website that marineise the 1.9TD citroen lump, they dont watercool the exhaust manfold or turbo just inject the water into the pipe after the turbo (as with all marine engines)

Does anyone know if the 1.9TD and 2.1TD blocks are the same or fit the same bell housings??? if so its easy then, i can buy a ready made adaptor for the 1.9TD
Thanks

NO!

The CX was the last diesel that Citroën developed (it was also used in some commercials). All the modern PSA diesels are developed from the Peugeot XD range of engines.

I think the 505 engine is a derivative of the Indenor engine developed by Peugeot in the 60's or 70's and built by a subsidiary company in a factory set up with French govt money. Indenor - probably something like INDustrie Du NOR(th) - and certainly nothing to do with India - or even the West Indies. These had codes like XD88 (2 litre fitted to 404)

The more you dig into the history of motor cars, the more facinating information you uncover.
For example, the PSA range of indirect injection engines (such as the TD12) became popular and led the market for many years due to the unique design of the pre-combustion chamber.
On my old XD2 engine (that I converted to marine use) the words "Ricardo Comet V" where cast into the cylinder head.
"Oh" I though - Italian design?

Wrong! English design!

Check out the following link, and note the bit about Citroën launching the worlds FIRST diesel production car in 1935!

Just been checking up on bellhousings -

The 2.1 XM and Pug 605 diesel use the ME5 gearbox
The 2.1 Xantia uses the ML5 gearbox
The 2.1 Pug 406 uses the ML5 gearbox
The Synergy diesel uses either the ME or ML gearbox, and that has the 1.9 diesel!

Not conclusive, but looks like you might have a way out!

Im sure they all share the same bottom end near enough so they should all be interchangable though i doubt a 1.9td box would last long witha 2.1 engine mounted to it :) but the older engines should be fine for your application :)
