Direct feed from battery to my blower motor ???? Please Help

Hi There ,
I have just wired my blower up from my battery . A direct feed as there is a problem with the wiring .

The only problem is that the wires are going hot and is melting the switches that i have used to act as a on off .

Does anyone know how and what i need to get this to work on a direct feed ?? it will cost a fortune to get the electrics fixed so that's out of the question .

Any help will be much appreciated .

Hi kieran, you forgot to tell us what car you have..

If you have a Xantia, and your rear screen heater is not working either.. then chances are that you have the well known knackered ignition switch problem.

If this is so.. then there is a fairly easy fix, but you'll have to confirm your make and model first.. Best wishes, Martin

with the air conned xantia it is actually a negative feed you need to get the blower to work......(assuming your car is suffering similar problems to mine)
M reg xantia 1.9td 266000 miles expired
R reg xantia 1.9td 186000 miles veggy power expired
L reg renault clio 1.9D 91000 miles expired at 107000 miles
x reg clio 15d veggy power bottom of the car rotted through
06 c5 2.2 TD wowser so much power and comfort 160000 miles

The wire you have used is too thin. The blower fan draws a fairtly high current, 20A plus I would guess. You need to use thicker cable, dont forget a fuse at the battery end ( probably 30A but check what size fuses is used on your original fan circuit ).

The switch is also getting hot because it cannot handle the current you are pulling through it. You need to use a relay to switch the fan on and off via the switch.

you will fix the problem when the car gose up in smoke,first thing to check is the fan resistor,i dont know where it is on a xsara but its usualy in the air intake to keep it cool

the resistor is ment to be behind the glove box acording to the haynes manual but i cant find it .
I read somewhere on here that you can wire it through the cigarete lighter .
Does anyone know anymore about this .

Hi again.. You can take a live (inline 20a fused!) feed from the battery via a (20 or 30a) relay to the heater motor, and switch the relay with any power feed that switches off when the ignition turns off. If your cig lighter goes off with the ignition then that will do the job.

btw It might be worth chatting to a mobile auto electrician... It needn't cost the earth and might fix all your problems at once.
