Xantia V6 auto question - 5 gears!!

Post by jgra1 »

well, not quite ;)

but, for example, when my xantia is warm, I manually select 1st, leave it there till about 3000 Rpm, then knock it into 2nd.. the revs drop, I continue, they drop again (about 500) , I change up then 3rd, then drive, and all is normal...

anyone else have this quirk?

is it a quirk?

It's probably the torque converter locking up at some predetermined speed, which gives the impression of another 1/2 ratio. Guy I used to share a lift with had a Scenic DCi auto, and that appeared to have an extra ratio too.

I have seen debates about a "warming up" feature that Pug 406s are supposed to have in their auto transmission systems that has some bearing on revs at lower temps etc, so might pay to ask the question of some Pug owners as I would imagine the 406 and Xantia would share a common drive train.
It's possibly more of a feature than a quirk.

Alan, thanks,

yes it does this anyway, holds first for a lot longer when cold...

I asked about this when I got the car as I was slightly baffled..

yeah certain the drivetrain is same for both... except the lucky 406's can get manual trans ;)

Am i right in thinking French V6 xantias cuold be manual? ..

too much hassle to bother changing I think... I quite lilke the auto, but... a manual would be nice...

I think we checked this out a while back and for reasons best known to themselves, we came to the conclusionXantia V6s are all autos.
We were discussing at the time which versions came in Activa and it seems we got a few out here that you didn't get there namely manual CT Turbos in Activa although they were in very small numbers.

This, higher rev change up when cold is supposed to aid 'Warm up' as the wife's CRX auto has the same feature. Slightly off topic re Activas but there are also the TD Activas sold on the continent... only available in LHD.
