Hi,
A family member has a 2002 1.9 diesel Megane Scenic variant JA1U05, and has really suffered at the hands of the main dealers.
The car has an intermittent fault causing the “Heaters/Electronic Fault” dash panel light to illuminate. It has been returned for the same fault 10 times and on most occasions has been charged for. The diagnosis have ranged from faulty AGR twice, corroded connections, earth clamps, and they are now saying a new loom is required at £1500. Each time the car goes in they reset the fault detection circuit and it’s usually months before it shows again.
My question is can the fault detection circuit be disabled or is there an easy way that we can reset it when the fault occurs again? (If you just remove the bulb, you have no glow plug indicator)

Have the heaters ever been checked ?
I have a feeling the garage dont know what (and where) the heaters are.
On a 2002 diesel the heaters would be coolant fluid heaters to help get up the engine temp within reasonable time. This is because a modern High Pressure Direct Injection Diesel engine is so efficient, that the heat loss is much lower than on the earlier diesel engines.
Hence the electric heaters to help the engine reaching normal working temp faster.
The heater(s) are located either as a block of 4 - or as 4 single units - screwed into a rigid coolant pipe. Usually found behind the cylinder head.
The heaters will be the same type - or very similar - as the glow plugs.
The heater control unit will be similar to the glowplug timer. But the heaters will normally not come on until the engine is running and the alternator then charging the battery.
A 2002 car wont have any warranty left ?
So why use the ridicolous expensive main dealer ?
(those figures are really ridicolous
)

Hi Anders
Thank you for your reply.
We have now more or less given up on actually finding out what is wrong with the car, and would just like to be able to reset the "fault detected Circuit" as it occures so infrequently. The other option is to disable the fault detection circuit. Any Suggestions?
