rough ride

Post by curly »

My C5 (2.2 hdi 03) has a very shacky ride and I noticed last week a small plastic elbow joint broken on the righthand side of the engine at the top,I took it back to the garage were I bought it from as it is still under warranty and they told me the broken part was part of the throttle body. My question is are they telling me the truth would this part cause my car to feel shacky when driving or could it be the cambelt as this was changed when I bought the car

It depends what you mean by 'shakey' If its 'kangerooing' it could well be something to do with the throttle. Or do you mean that the engine is running unevenly or the ride is hard?

The ride is alright but if you sit say at 30mph you can feel a what I can only describe as the engine surging ever so slightly but at 70mph you can feel it shake not kangaroo. I notice that when I start the car in the morning when really cold you can feel the engine jump about a bit until I put my foot on the accelarator and when warm if you put your foot down it only revs to about 4500 revs then doesn't want to know until you change gear
The only thing they did to the car when I bought it was service it and change the cambelt, should I ask them to check the cambelt as well when I take it in to have the broken part on throttle body repaired :?:

I would certainly get the elbow fixed first and see what happens. The shaking at 70 could be an out of balance tyre.

Oh and

"it only revs to about 4500 revs then doesn't want to know until you change gear "

It's a diesel - drive it in the 1500 - 3500 rpm range and it will be much much happier......

Isn't 4500 rpm past max quoted power? Most PSA diesels don't rev very hard - and 4500 sounds like max to me - in which case it would be limiting itself.

Isn't there a red band on the rev counter? If so at what revs does it start?

Hi, Running out of steam at 4500 RPM!! Not surprised, that is about the max rpm and the limiter is just about coming in. Only ever pushed mine to this a couple of times and the power has dropped right off by then

Thanks to all for your replies, I have book car in next week to have elbow repaired, and no there is no red line on rev counter ,so the engine has a limiter, I didn't know will keep my foot off the gas alittle bit more now .
Will let you know if the problem is fix next week

just got my car back yesterday the ride is alot better but still a slight shake at 70 so the next course of action is getting the wheels balanced. The engine is still very shakey when starting from cold is this normal ? and if say the timing belt is out how can I tell ?
Sorry for being a pain its just the car is still under warranty for about another month and if I go back and sound like you know what your talking about they don't fob you off with bull***t
Many Thanks Curly
