Headbolt Removal 1996 zx 1.9TD

Post by citroenbx »

Hi there.......I'd like to remove a Cylinder Head from my ZX 1.9td.

I have salvaged lots of parts off this cars as spares (I was written off in March this Year)

Before it goes to the Breakers i would like to remove its head for my other 1.9td i'm driving at present (Just as a spare) i know this heads history.

What kind of job is it and what tools do i need ?

Would i be right in thinking i need a special Torx type Tool ?I have a full socket set but not this attachment ?

Anyone know the correct size ?

Thanks
Life feels good just as you complete No4 Glow Plug on a ZX-TD

Yes you will need a torx tool but I am afraid I dont know the size. I am sure someone else will. You will also need to remove the cam belt, but as you are not likely to need it again you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by putting a stanley knife throught it.

T55 for the head bolts. Is the engine in the car? If so, you might want to think twice about taking the head off - you probably need to get the manifolds off, and this is not easy....

oooo removing the head from a zx td happy memories...

you can do it with the negine in situe but the manifolds are held on with long studs comming out of the head meaning there is hardly enough room to push the manifolds off the back of the engine to free the head.
you can do it by detaching the exhaust under the car to allow some more movement.
Also, remove the top left engine mount (the one above the cam belt) this lets the engine slope forward making it easier to get the manifolds off....

its a challenge but its dooable

good luck

If you can disconnect the exhaust, and turbo oil feed and drain, you can remove the head complete with the manifolds and turbo - much easier.

the way i looked at it was the manifolds had to come off any way for the skimming so i just did it in the car. it wasnt that difficult really...

its a nice sense of achievement when it starts up again! 8)
