C5 gear knob removal.

Post by Sir Clive »

I would like to remove the gear knob on my C5, in order to replace it with a nice shiny Momo one. How do I get the original off, does it just unscrew????

Why? The C5 one complements the interior perfectly!

Watch out if your gearbox requires you to lift the lever to select reverse.

Hmm-yes, but the aluminium top on mine is starting to sort of break up and flake away, and I don't want to get splinters in my hand :(
Whether I replace with aftermarket or original, I still need to know how to get the thing off!

Dose anyone have an answer to this the lift up reverse collar on mine doesn't always go back down and I think it must be the spring so want to replace the spring or grease up or replace the whole thing as a last resort

The C5 gearknob does suit the interior and its nice to use too, but I have seen the earlier C5s with a sticky reverse collar. It would seem the collar gets stuck into the top of the gearknob, however if you dont lift it fully up then it shouldnt stick but still engage reverse.

I guess Citroen knew about this problem before it happened and so installed the reversing 'bong' Thankfully removed on later ones

Ive not removed one, they usually just pull straight off but watch you dont get a black eye

Mine's the same, the chrome has flaked off and has razor sharp edges sticking up, I'm gradually picking the rest of the chrome off, I rather like the ivory colour underneath. :)

The gearknob on my new C5 is the same, and I've had the same thoughts about the ivory colour underneath.

Ours are all the same, mint condition with no sharp flaking silver finish.

I have seen them flaking, I was driving a C5 auto today which was doing it, but have not had a problem with ours. Despite our 2002 C5 having covered 141K, its perfect.

Rings are the problem, rings will chip at the finish and eventually it will wear it out
