Washers on A Mk2 Xantia

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi All,
One question regarding my sons Mk2 Xantia Hdi 90 S reg.
Both front and rear washers have packed up. Checked all the fuses on board, pulled off plugs at each pump, no power to either,--checked operating arm and fed it some WD40. Are there any other fuses to do with this item?

Washers on A Mk2 Xantia

Hi Cloggz,
Thanks for your answer, bt there is NO pump working on the car. The electric feed to the two pumps is not there, that is why I wondered if there was any other fuses, or an inline fuse.

I would rather be a plumber than an electrician---at least you can feel and see when liquid comes out of a pipe. :D

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Probably no use, I’ve only got the Haynes 1996 for the Mk I, showing a single pump motor with only 2 wires for both the front and rear screen washers.
How that goes, I don’t know, perhaps that the pump turns one way for the front washer, and the other way for the rear.
The only fuse showing is F24, 30 Amps, under the dash.
This fuse also operates the wipers, so if they work, it’s not that.
The fuse feeds the wiper switch, so there is no feed to the pump until the washer is operated from the switch.
Only way to check would be with a test lamp between the 2 pump wires, with the washer stalk activated.
If the front or rear wash depend on the motor’s direction of rotation, it must be that the switch changes the polarity to the pump motor, and so the motor has no set ‘feed’ and ‘earth’.
Most likely is that all washer nozzles are blocked, preventing the motor from spinning.
On my old bombs, I used to have something drying out in the pump, so that when there had been no water in the washer reservoir for weeks or months, the pump would need several days to prime itself, and recover.
The pump may also be stuck in some way, binding or seized.

Best wishes, :) and hope that the experts in the know soon arrive with ideas.

Regards,

Terry.
