hi folks , the wifes megane failed its mot today on badly pitted front discs which wasnt bad as the car is ten years old ,will change them tomorrow along with pads ,while im at it can anyone tell me how difficult it is to change track rod ends as they are rusted solid and the mechanic at local garage said he might have to heat them first before adjusting but i would like to change them if it is not to difficult a job bearing in mind i am a novice diy mechanic,any info would be appreciated thanks
I don't know about the Megane but trackrod ends are not usually difficult to change. A nut needs to be undone at the top of the ball joint then the taper knocked out. On the trackrod, a locknut needs to be loosened and the end screwed off. If you are lucky you may be able to replace the new end to the same position of the old, but it's as well to have the wheel alignment checked.
thanks for the advice johnd i havent even managed to change the front discs yet as i cant find an allan key to fit the brake calliper bolts u dont happen to know the correct size ,i have tried every allan key and torque key in my toolbox but none fit ,thanks again
