I searched on posts by you and nothing there that would relate to stereo wiring

You're right, the steering controls are on the third connector. I've never attempted chopping them so I couldn't tell you what each wire does. It's the one time I've actually forked out for an Autoleads connector
To the writer of that wikipedia entry, your speaker pinouts don't actually mean anything. Descriptions like 'Right rear 1' and right rear 2' don't really give the reader a clue what's going on. Why not say 'Right rear +' and 'Right rear -'?

ok i have managed to get the wiring diagram for the inside of the PH1D !!
on that third socket there are the following ...
pin 1 - CDC R
2 - CDC L
3 - CDC ground
4 - U5/REF
5 - A2
6 - A1
7 - RC BEL
8 - RC ground
Can someone translate these?
this brings up anothre question, on my V6 Xantia with multichanger, this top socket only looks like it has 3 wires... yet on older units without changer, there are more wires in this socket.
The steering wheel controls have 4 wires going in, (Mark1) and one, two of these must be switch illumination..
help
