Xantia lower arm bushes

Post by davetd »

Hi

Has anyone successfully changed the lower arm bushes at home without going to a specialist?

Cheers

Yep, the rear big cylindrical bushes are 'OK' to do - you angle grind/hacksaw
them off TAKING CARE NOT TO CUT INTO the main wishbone's centre
diameter. The real git of the job was trying to remove the small mushroom
style front bushes.

I think on reflection they're so indestructible I won't even try replacing them
the next time though. Oh, and quadruple check the rear bush is on the
wishbone in the right orientation... Putting these on is a one chance hit or miss affair...

No special tools beyond the usual keeping your Citroen alive toolkit are
required BUT a damned good bench vice is necessary!!

Thanks.

Suprisingly GSF only stock the cylindrical rear ones at 13.65 plus vat, but Citroen do all 4 for 8 plus vat each

cheers

On Gsf's listing: N42227 FR CONT ARM FR BUSH XANTIA FRONT BUSH (MUSHROOM SHAPE) 5.25

One thing that needs VERY CAREFUL attention when dealing with GSF;
after buggering up a NEW rear bush (through it's removal after putting
it on the arm the wrong way around... )

The parts numbering (or at least the item's number labelling possibly),
is all to cock! The actual right hand side bush is stamped with a big 'R'
although I never saw anything on the opposite side and they insisted
I have the one that didn't seem right - lucky I could clamber under my
other Xantia I had outside in the carpark to show something at their
end wasn't right!!

are they the same as BX bushes,if so i use my old f**rd cortina void bush removal/refitting tool work every time, with the mushroom bush i just lift the edge all the wy around right up,so when i use my f**rd tool wich im sure you can still buy from most motor factors, the bush goes inside the tool,no bashing, swareing, blood loss or blowtorch
