That's a Vise-Grip Chain Clamp.

36 quid from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grip-20R-Lockin ... s=diytools

I'd imagine B&Q would have them too...

As its a single row chain I reckon I'd break that without much trouble on a stubborn rear one.

Better to get a double row chain on a plumbers one. - probably cost less too!

Hmmm had a nice new shiney one of those when I changed my first sphere.... didn't last long and ended up giving each sphere a thump with a cold chisel and a lump hammer... now that works every time for me!!!

I have an industrial pipe fitters chain clamp which doesn't let go (it's got a monster of a chain - 1" by 3/8" from memory - and a serrated clamp section bit like a pair of Stilsons); the struggle was finding a piece of pipe long enough and strong enough to use it with when changing the ones on my BX years ago.

Picked it up at a car boot for a fiver becuase it had some surface rust on it!

Hi guys

Hmm mixed feelings about this one but its certinly the type i borrowed the one i had was really strong i even had to put more leverage on it as my rear sphere,s were really stubburn but this tool showed no sign of weakness and got them off with ease the guy i borrowed it from uses the tool for his business (all he does is citroens and uses this tool for doing peoples sphere,s) lent it to me one weekend a little while ago and i found it really good. Foolzz were did you get yours from when you had one?, im in the west midlands area also. The guy that lent me the tool is midland citroen in wednesbury. And i will also try B&Q to see if they sell them.

Got mine from Car Spares on Kingsbury Rd, Erdington. It would have been OK for oil filters (a bit cumbersome) but soon gave up on the spheres.

I use one of these vice grip chain types too and found it to be up to the job, but then we don't have the salted roads to contend with and I usually coat the threads on my shperes before I fit them as an added bonus.
Tell ya what though; they fair stick it up you guys pricewise.

Here's a currency conversion on the price quoted:

36.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 88.5233 AUD Australia Dollars

We bought ours out here at an Auto accessories store for A$15 or 6 GBP....big difference.

Sphere removal tool

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi All,
This tool is from Pliades. No tight sphere is safe when this is attached. :D Got it from fleabay, from a local guy. It would be simple enough to knock one up.
