205 - Ease of steering

Unread post by woodhead722 »

We have had 205 diesels since '91, and have concluded for my wife at least that power steering is essential.

However can anyone confirm how light a 1100 petrol 205 car is in comparison, as the MOT is due and I'm taking nothing for granted, and am keeping eyes open for another just in case.

I've had both without power steering but don't remember the diesel seeming much heavier than the petrol (I part ex-ed one for t'other). They were both a pig to park in a tight spot unless you've got arms like popeye!

got a feeling that my 205 junior d (k reg) was about the last of the diesels not to have PAS.

A few years ago we had two identical XUD 205's. The wife had one, a daughter had the other. Neither had power steering, but I never heard them complain about heavy steering.

I can assure you there is a world of difference with / without PAS on the diesel.

Compare when parking!!

I used to put 50psi in the front tyres on mine. That made it easier.

Got exciting in the wet though.
