Wheres my CD changer gone???

Post by f00lzz »

Hi Guys.
My Head Unit no longer recognises the CD changer (standard Philips/Clarion setup) in my Exclusive. CD cartridge will still eject so power is there. I have removed both HU and Changer and both are still 'plugged in'. I have also disconnected and reconnected in an attempt to re-set the system... any ideas??????

Clean the connections perhaps?

Some stereos I believe have a 'reset' function somewhere on them incase it goes a bit potty.

Failing that, removal of the car battery connections for a moment to reset everything :?:

Couldnt find a re-set button... but did pull the 10amp fuse and left it for 10mins before reconnecting..
I was actually listening to a CD when it just switched to the radio... and now pressing the SRC button just toggles between tape and radio!!!

Surely not a response to my taste in music :P

Was it Tom Jones?

Apparently the Fords stereo's enjoy a combination of both Paradise Lost and Johnny Cash

Try a CD laser cleaning disc. Maybe the head unit only registers the multichanger if the laser sees a CD in it.

I think it would register 'NO DISC' still, thanks for the input... i'll give it a go (don't think it can select or play a disc without instruction from the HU)

I doubt if removing the fuse will have cut off the supply sufficiently to reset the device. Most radios etc have 2 supplies - one unswitched but fused for the memory and the other via the ignition for power to the set. You willneed to disconnect all power to re-set.

if you were listening to it, and it just died, I wonder if the cd changer umbilical cable has chafed through somewhere, and hence the head unit no longer recognises it's there.

I've had similar with a loose plug on the back of the head unit before. CD changer still had power, but the head unit refused to believe it existed.
This is not a signature.
