My driver's side headlamp has failed.
That's the right hand side for our continental friends.
I could not get my hand in to get the bulb out. The LDS tank was in the way.
I tried front left and hadto remove the battery to get at this one. Thats not too bad. But front right is a pig.
My C5 has Xenon lamps. Its the dip beam thats failed.
Looks like I need to take out the headlamp unit. But this must need the removal of the front bumper.
Otherwise, could I lift out the LDS tank ?
Its not and easy job. Not with my big hands.
I know, I'll get my wife to do it...
cheers, Kev

Handbooks would have you go back to the dealer for everything.... lol
I've managed to get the Xenon bulb out...Its an OSRAM XENARC.
I put it back in for now. It comes on intermittently and flashes a bit.
I need to take it out again to find out exactly which model of bulb it is. There's D1S, D1R, D2S or D2R.
Don't ask me what these mean.
I've looked on Ebay and it looks hopeful that I can get one from a bloke in Canada at the right price. Or was that outer Mongolia.
I've seen one Xenon bulb on the internet which looked scarily like mine priced at GBP 97.65.
Does anyone know which model I need .. D1S... or D2S etc. ?
And, how do you remove the 'bloc hydraulique' ?
And, how can I get hold of a Revue Technique for the C5 ?
cheers, Kev

There are several versions for different engines, I think the one you want is the Diesel one, I can check my copy if you want:

This book is listed as "En cours de réimpression" i.e. "currently being re-printed" so you can't order it at the moment but will be able to once their suppliers have them in. Amazon.fr have a similar message.

I bought mine when I was in Calais a few months ago. I'll be there again, probably next week. I could pick one up and post it. They are £15.40 - plus the postage.KevMayer wrote:

John,
I've sent you a Private Message (I think I sent it ? ... it's the first time I've tried it ).
meeper,
Thanks for those links. I've searched the web several times for a Revue Technique for a C5 and not had any luck. Those links are great.
cheers,
Kev

Update:-
The Xenon bulbs for the C5 Dip beam are type D2R.
D2R are for headlamps with reflector dishes (.. eg. C5) where the front glass is clear and the rear of the headlamp unit has a shiney polished reflector dish.
D2S are for cars like BMWs with spotlamp type lenses where the front glass is a lense to focus the beam.

at the price of these bulbs i would say you change them very carfully.
you can get the LDS tank off it's about a 10 min jon remove the wheel and inner cover, unbolte the tank and remove the clip inside the wheel arch and the tank will lift out , you will lose some LDS but it might be a good time time replace it.

I got 2 Xenon bulbs from a company in Taiwan which i found on Ebay.
They were 2 Xenon type D2R bulbs with 9000k temperature. The 2 cost 30.50 GBP total (not each) plus 15 GBP postage.
I've fitted them very carefully and they work a treat.
cheers, Kev
