C5 Key Fob

Post by johnway »

Hello!! My C5 key fob was working fine, then all of a sudden one day last week I could not lock/unlock remotely or partly open the windows after locking (a C5 feature). New battery was my first thought and so new fob battery installed - no joy. Anyone have any ideas how these RF fobs can be tested? Many thanks,
John.[/b]

Seem to recall this advice given on another forum. Disconnect the battery for ten minutes. Reconnect and start the engine. Switch off and try the key fob. Maybe need to repeat the engine starting a couple of times.

I had this happen on my C5 a few days ago. Then it just started to work again.

What I suspected had happened was that their is a security feature built in which is similar to the one I have on my Audi A4.

If the Audi detects another radio signal whilst I send an open then it locks out. To reset it You haveto press and hold the open button for 10 seconds.

This is what I did on my C5 and I think it worked.

Try it..a 10 second burst. See if it resets the link.

Good Luck

Kev

My C5 sometimes does this, but it fixes itself after about 30mins I think.

If you put the key in the ignition and turn it on to electrics, and then press one of the buttons. I think that reprograms the key when you change battery?

Hello,
You are right!! I went to a local Citroen Dealer who was able to test the fob and found it to be working OK. Helpful chap also tried the reset trick i.e. turn on ignition and press the unlock button for 10 secs. After 2 goes at this still nothing but he told me to keep trying and if still no joy then the ECU would need re-programming (a £35 job). Drove the car back home, switched off and went through the reset procedure again - this time twice with the unlock button, then once with the lock button. Joy oh joy, I heard the wonderful sound of door locking and both indicators flashing!!. Job done - fob back in remote action.
Regards,
John.
