Xantia new noise

Post by mark_l »

Hello! :)
It happens after long parking (1-2 days).
After engine start and pressure rising (red light-off in 10-30 sec).
When turning steering wheel i hear nasty nose like drilling with hebetate drill.
After 2-5 minutes of engine running it disappear.
Main sphere-good-no ticking.
LHM level-OK.

What is a problem?
Is it beginning of something serious?

Thanks ahead for suggestions. :D

has the front raised itself fully before you are turning the wheel?

try setting it to high suspension waiting till it has raised itself up and then turning the wheel.........

I don't think so. The niose is different and appears only when steering wheel is turning. Sometimes when break pedal pressed. It seems something hydraulic...

sounds like regulater to me,or if the car has done a high mileage it could be a stiking piston in the pump

Yes, front is fully raised.

I did not try to set high suspension before steering. Tomorrow i will.
And: if the noise disappear in high position-what it indicates?

Thanks :D

do You mean pressure or height regulator?
As You see below-my mileage is not too high...
Is it possible, that the piston sticks only when steering wheel is turned?

Sorry for my barbarism

well if its in high and steers without making the noise i would expect it to be a suspension fault and start looking at how quickly it is lifting the front up.....

if it makes the same noise as it tries to lift the car high (without being steered) i would be looking at a fault in the pump/pressurisation of the system

and if it lifts high then you steer it and it makes the noise it must be a steering fault somewhere

OK.
After engine start-up i moved height selector to max height.

Rising to highest position was without any noise. No steering of cause.
Rising time to full height-45 sec (after appr. 20 hours parking).

Steering in the highest position (no move) after rising-no noise too.

Then i moved selector to normal position and started drive reverse + slight steering & pressing brakes pedeal. In this moment the noise appeared. Less intensive then regular. :?

On this moment the picture is: the noise appears when stearing and breakes are applied.

Maybe it is really belt slipping while loading rise?
Does pump "work harder" when more systems act or it works under the same loading? :?:

Thanks again for Your attention.

i am most definately not an expert at the suspension but i would guess that the pump would have to work harder the more pressure is required in the system.....

from what you have discovered it sounds like a pumpo fault of some sort so ave a look at your auxilliary belt (especially at the inside bit) and see if it is starting to crack on the inside (also worth checking its not started to split at any point i have seen cars with the belt split almost in half)

at this point i would seriously consider changing the belt....its cheap and it might solve your problem

possibly you could have a fault with the automatic adjuster (though when mine expired it was making bearing expiring noises all the time) so if you change the belt give the wheel a spin and make sure it rotates properly

the regulater is the unit which the main acumalater sphere is screwed onto, the hight control unit is not called a regulater, its a hight corector, the pump pistons can stick when the pump get worn, the pistons lay around the center spindle and there is a disc on the spindel which is tilted so when the spindel is rotated the disc presses each piston in turn
